September 2023 - Euro baseball championships in the Czech Republic; pool play with Italy, England, Hungary, and Sweden. The coach for Hungary is Johnston Hobbs, an American with roots in Raleigh, North Carolina. He has worked with the baseball program in Turkey and was part of the coaching staff for one of the top high school programs in Florida. This summer, he is the coach for Kokomo in the Northwoods League, a top summer wooden bat circuit. Some of the candidates for the Hungarian team are part of A3 Academy in Florida, he notes. The Hungarian candidate pool has players from college programs in Iowa and California and another one has ties to Mexico.

Friday, Dec. 9 - spoke at the Virginia Baseball Coaches Convention at the Fairfax Marriott on the history of baseball in the state with reflections from our new book on the topic: "From Tidewater To The Shenandoah: Snapshots From Virginia's Rich Baseball Legacy."

There were at least five former Major League players at the convention: Randy Tomlin, Hall of Fame candidate Billy Wagner, Shawn Camp, Brandon Guyer, and Michael Cuddyer. Wagner and Tomlin are high school coaches in central Virginia, Camp is the first-year head coach at George Mason University, Guyer is a mental skills consultant to the University of Virginia and the Angels, and Cuddyer has been a youth coach and former USA national team member. All five of them played high school baseball in Virginia.
